Michelle Chin-Dawe

Part-time Project Manager

I am a passionate climate and food systems change advocate from Tkaronto - a land cared for by the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat. As a first-generation settler and racialized woman, I acknowledge the treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and I respect the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, a pact to peaceably share and care for the Great Lakes region. I put this in my bio to be part of a collective remembering of Canada’s on-going colonial violence as opposed to a collective forgetting.

With over 10 years in the nonprofit and food co-op sectors, I've honed skills in project management, administration, and operations. I've contributed to and worked at the Local Food and Farm Co-ops, Ontario Co-op Association’s Principle 8 working group, managed York University’s good food markets, Chaired York’s student subcommittee on sustainability and served on the board of Et Al student co-op café. Additionally, I transformed my mom's soap-making hobby into a successful business. I have a Master's in Environmental Studies from York University, with my research on "Decolonizing Local Food Culture" featured in York's graduate student paper series. In my spare time I enjoy growing food in my garden, being with my family, and shopping at local markets!
