Kyla Schwarz-Lam

Part-time Manager

I am of Chinese background, living in Tkaronto (also known as Toronto), a land that has been stewarded by many nations, including the Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Haudenosaunee, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit River.

I've explored many avenues and roles, including toxicologist, caterer, whole grain baker, and farmers’ market manager. Through these experiences I continue to learn the need for strong community bonds. Most recently as manager of The Stop Farmers’ Market I worked with vendors and customers to build a farmers’ market that brings all members of the community together. I shared the lessons learned from this work with an international audience at the 11th International Public Markets Conference in a workshop entitled How The Stop is Building a Market for Everyone: Changing Narratives About Who Belongs. Currently I am exploring the idea of connection in pottery through functional work that connects the hands of the maker and the user.
